Snow Chaos Alert! The Met Office has slapped a yellow warning across huge swathes of the UK. Brace yourselves for snow and ice hitting Scotland, northern and eastern England, the South West, and the East Midlands. Winter’s grip is tightening, and icy roads are set to cause serious hassle.
Current Snow Storm Hits Hard
Snow’s already ground northern England to a halt. In Yorkshire, a bus got stranded thanks to slippery roads. The yellow warning stays up until 11am Friday as more snow and ice threaten to disrupt roads and rail services. Expect delays and travel mayhem.
What the Met Office Says
The Met warns of ongoing showers slapping northern and eastern Scotland and eastern England. Snow will fall from the Humber northwards, with up to 2cm on flat ground and 5cm on hills. Southern parts should see snow mostly on higher ground only.
Meanwhile, the South West – Cornwall, Devon, Dorset, and Somerset – faces its own yellow warning from 3am to 4pm Thursday. Northern Ireland isn’t off the hook either, with icy conditions expected until 10am Thursday.
Temperature Plunge and Travel Warnings
Daytime highs will barely crack single digits, while nights across England and Scotland will continue to dip below freezing.
North Yorkshire Police are urging drivers to be careful. Roads are closing in spots as gritters and plows do their best to clear the mess. Coatham Coaches, running between Guisborough and Whitby, warn passengers to stay alert as they review school and college routes amid hazardous conditions.
