Stockbury Roundabout to Shut for Weekend Upgrade
Big changes are coming to Stockbury Roundabout as it closes for the weekend to switch over to a new, bigger roundabout running under fresh north and south bridges. This is a major milestone, paving the way for construction of the central flyover section.
Closure Details: When and Where
The roundabout shuts at 8pm on Friday, November 17, reopening at 5am Monday, November 20. Until then, no through traffic will be allowed on Stockbury Roundabout. But don’t worry—some key slip roads remain open to ease traffic:
- A249 northbound (from Maidstone) to M2 coastbound
- M2 coastbound to A249 northbound (towards Sittingbourne)
- A249 southbound (from Sittingbourne) to M2 London-bound
Note: There will be no access to the A249 from the M2 London-bound during the closure. While the A249 stays open, all traffic near Stockbury must merge onto the M2.
What This Means for Drivers
This weekend shutdown is crucial to upgrading traffic flow and safety on one of the region’s busiest junctions. Drivers should plan ahead, follow diversion signs, and expect some delays.
The project team thanks everyone for their patience while the improvements take shape. Regular updates will keep the public informed on progress and traffic changes.
