British Tourist Dies Saving Kids from Deadly Spanish Sea
A 52-year-old British tourist has tragically died while trying to rescue two children caught in rough waters at La Roqueta beach, Guardamar de Segura, south of Alicante. The heartbreaking incident happened last Friday amid fierce weather conditions.
Heroic Rescue Ends in Double Tragedy
The man plunged into the choppy sea to help two kids, aged six and seven, struggling against powerful currents. Along with others, he managed to save the children, but sadly he did not survive. A 46-year-old Polish man also lost his life during the rescue effort. Two more, a 20-year-old woman and a 22-year-old man, were hospitalised with breathing difficulties after the ordeal.
Dangerous Conditions and Rising Death Toll
Strong winds of nearly 40mph battered the coast at the time. A Civil Guard source confirmed the British man’s death and warned of the hazardous sea currents. Guardamar del Segura mayor Jose Luis Saez expressed deep sorrow over the losses and urged beachgoers to exercise maximum caution due to strong dragging currents.
This latest tragedy follows the drowning of a 68-year-old Israeli national at the same beach just one day earlier. Shockingly, eight people have already drowned in Alicante province in the first week of June alone.
Calls for Vigilance as Weather Remains Unstable
Authorities are warning visitors to stay alert as unstable weather is expected to persist over the weekend. Last month, another tragedy struck Costa Blanca when an 18-month-old British toddler died in a swimming pool accident despite emergency efforts.
Officials stress the urgent need for improved beach safety and greater awareness among tourists and locals alike to prevent further heartbreaking deaths along Spain’s coastline.
