Driver’s Dangerous Chase Ends in Tragedy as Passenger Dies
Bradley Webb’s Reckless Drive Kills Passenger
Bradley Webb smashed into a wall in Houghton-le-Spring after blazing through red lights and swerving on the wrong side of the road. The chaos left passenger Paula Tiffin seriously injured. She later died from her injuries, leaving her family devastated.
Appeal Dropped After No Sentence Boost in Similar Case
Webb was sentenced to six years and eight months after admitting dangerous driving causing death. But a planned appeal to increase his sentence has now been pulled. The Solicitor General’s office said such referrals can only happen if a “gross error” is found by the judge, and the bar is set very high.
After careful consideration of a similar case recently referred to the Court of Appeal where the sentence was not increased, it has been concluded that this referral can no longer properly be made,” a spokesperson said.
Police Chase Ends in Tragedy
The August 2023 incident began when Durham police chased Webb, who then crossed into Northumbria police’s area. Paula Tiffin, a mother of 11 from Washington, Tyne & Wear, suffered fatal injuries in the crash. Another woman, Diane Coffell, was also seriously hurt.
Judge Stephen Earl blasted Webb’s actions as “appalling” and said he drove recklessly to evade police.
Sympathy for Victim’s Family
The Solicitor General expressed deep condolences to Paula Tiffin’s family over their “devastating loss”. Webb, formerly of Queen Street, Sunderland, now faces years behind bars for his deadly stunt.
