Cambridge Man Jailed for Locking Ex Inside Burning Home

Patrick Blenman, 56, from Consort Avenue, Cambridge, was sentenced to two and a half years behind bars at Reading Crown Court today (21/4).

Found Guilty of Assault, Arson, and False Imprisonment

Following a gruelling five-day trial last month, a jury unanimously convicted Blenman on three counts: assault, arson, and false imprisonment. He was cleared of making threats to kill.

Horrific Attack in Sandhurst

In the early hours of 10 August 2021, Blenman assaulted his 32-year-old ex-partner at a home in Sandhurst. He then padlocked her inside the property and sparked a fire by the front door.

Trapped and terrified, the victim had no choice but to escape by jumping from a third-floor window, suffering injuries from the fall and the assault.

Police Praise and Ongoing Commitment to Domestic Abuse Cases

“I’m pleased that Patrick Blenman has been jailed for this horrendous attack on his former partner,” said Detective Sergeant Ryan Powell.

“The victim endured extreme trauma, being locked in and forced to flee a blazing building. She suffered both physical injuries and lasting psychological harm. Specially trained officers supported her throughout the court process.”

“Thames Valley Police is relentless in pursuing those who commit violence against women and girls. Last year, formal actions in domestic abuse cases rose by 32%. Our work with partners and communities continues to tackle this vital issue.”
