Life Behind Bars for Knife-Wielding Attacker who Stabbed Three Police Officers
Mohammed Rahman, 25, from Westbourne Park Road, W2, was slapped with a life sentence at Kingston Crown Court on 8 December. He must serve at least 20 years for the brutal stabbing of two police officers and seriously injuring a third.
Brutal Knife Attack in Leicester Square
In the early hours of 16 September 2022, officers on patrol near Leicester Square were tipped off about a man armed with a knife who had just robbed a passerby of their phone.
The female officers quickly tracked down Rahman, who refused to cooperate. Suddenly, he lunged at them and made a run for it. When officers moved to arrest him, Rahman stabbed PC Alannah Mulhall in the right upper arm, slicing down to the bone.
- PC Joe Gerrard was then stabbed five times to the head, arm, and chest, puncturing a lung.
- A third officer suffered a serious finger wound but later recovered.
Only the swift action of paramedics saved the officers from even worse outcomes. Despite being viciously attacked, the cops bravely fought back and finally cuffed Rahman.
Investigation and Court Verdict
Detective Inspector Ollie Stride praised the officers’ “courage and bravery” and highlighted the teamwork among first responders and medical staff who helped save lives. The Specialist Crime Command launched a thorough investigation, collecting CCTV and bodycam footage that documented the savage assault and arrest.
On 11 September, Rahman was found guilty of:
- Attempted murder of PC Joe Gerrard
- Grievous bodily harm with intent against PC Alannah Mulhall
- Possession of a bladed weapon
- Assault and threatening officers with a knife
- Robbery of a member of the public
Deputy Chief Crown Prosecutor David Malone called the stabbing “shocking and horrific” and paid tribute to the Metropolitan Police’s painstaking investigation. He warned knife carriers that they “will be caught and prosecuted.”
Officers Recover and Return to Duty
The two officers stabbed underwent surgery and have since made remarkable recoveries, returning to the front line earlier this year.
Mohammed Rahman’s violent spree has ended with a life sentence—a stark reminder to anyone who thinks they can attack the brave men and women keeping our streets safe.
