Gun Rampage in Belfield Ends with 20-Year Jail Term

Thomas Anderson, 22, of no fixed address, has been jailed for 20 years following a chilling shooting spree in Belfield back in October 2019.

Blazing Gunfire Leaves Three Men Injured

At around 1.30pm on October 15, 2019, Anderson stormed a house armed with a handgun. He first shot a 22-year-old man in the chest and shoulder. Not stopping there, he fired at a 46-year-old man injuring his arm and back, and another 47-year-old man shot in the wrist.

All three victims received emergency treatment on the scene, including air ambulance support. Thankfully, they are now on the road to recovery.

Fleeing on a Bike and Taxi – A Failed Escape

After the attack, Anderson fled the house on a pedal cycle before hopping into a taxi to Upholland train station. He even tried to cover his tracks by booking a second taxi under a false name.

But police were hot on his heels.

Forensics and CCTV Nail the Gunman

  • Police uncovered mobile phone evidence and CCTV footage linking Anderson to the crime.
  • A red coat he wore while fleeing was found at the train station.
  • Forensic tests revealed a bullet casing and gunshot residue in the jacket pocket.
  • A mobile phone near the jacket was traced back to Anderson.

In February, Anderson pleaded guilty to attempted murder, two counts of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, and possessing a firearm.

Detective Issues Stark Warning

Detective Inspector Steve Monk said: “This attack was targeted, deliberate, and driven by a grievance. Anderson’s violence was reckless and unnecessary.

“It’s pure luck no one was killed. I’m relieved the victims are recovering.

“Anderson is a dangerous, violent offender, now behind bars for a significant sentence. This sends a clear message – gun crime will not be tolerated in Lancashire.”

The police investigation, aided by the CPS and prosecution, successfully brought justice to the victims and removed a dangerous man from the streets.
