30-year-old biker dies after high-speed chase

A 30-year-old man died yesterday after a police pursuit ended in disaster. His motorbike smashed into railings on Commercial Road, Limehouse, around 2.20pm on Monday, March 20.

Two riders were thrown from the bike during the crash. The second rider, aged 29, was rushed to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Victim left behind a newborn daughter and wife

The deceased, identified as Alamin Kazi, leaves behind a wife and a two-week-old baby girl, adding heartbreak to the tragedy.

Alamin’s dark past revealed

In 2016, Alamin Kazi, then 23, was jailed for three and a half years after being convicted as part of a gang that stole up to ten motorcycles daily. The gang used the stolen bikes to snatch phones from pedestrians before selling the vehicles.

He admitted to multiple counts including robbery, handling stolen motorcycles and scooters, and attempted theft of a camera.

Police conduct under scrutiny

The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) has launched an independent investigation into the police chase. The case has been referred to the Met’s Directorate of Professional Standards given the serious incident involving police pursuit.

Scene cordoned off as forensic teams probe crash

Commercial Road remained closed most of Monday as forensic experts scoured the scene. Police sealed off a large area, and debris from the crash was scattered across the road.
