Coventry Student Murder Shock: Pengqi Sun Found Guilty of Fatal Knife Attack

Brutal Attack at City Centre Gathering

A peaceful celebration turned deadly in Coventry on April 6 when Pengqi Sun launched a vicious knife attack that claimed the life of 22-year-old Coventry University student, Shuo Zou. The deadly stabbing unfolded during a party organised by Shuo and his friends to mark a shared acquaintance with Sun.

Minor Dispute Sparks Fatal Violence

A disagreement between Sun and Shuo triggered the violence. Friends initially stepped in to stop the fight, but Sun wasn’t done. He armed himself with two sharp blades crafted from broken scissors and a knife.

Sun then tracked down Shuo and his friends at a bus stop. Without warning, he struck, inflicting a fatal wound to Shuo’s neck. Another friend who tried to intervene was left with serious hand injuries. Shuo died at the scene.

Swift Arrest and Court Verdict

Witnesses quickly identified Sun, leading to his immediate arrest. Despite Sun’s claims of self-defense, a Warwick Crown Court jury found him guilty of murder and wounding with intent. He was cleared of attempted murder charges.

“Shuo Zou died from a stab wound miles from home and his family. This is a tragedy that escalated from a minor disagreement, and our sympathies remain with Shuo’s family and friends,” said Detective Inspector Damian Forrest of the Homicide Unit.

Sentencing Date Set

Pengqi Sun, who lives on Hales Street in Coventry, faces sentencing on Monday, October 9. The city waits to see justice served for the young student taken far too soon.
