Dangerous Abuser Jailed for Brutal Attacks
Claudio Stroud, 23, has been locked up for a string of vicious attacks on his ex-partner and assaults on two police officers. The Swindon man was handed a total sentence of four years and nine months at Swindon Crown Court on 24 January 2025.
Shocking Abuse and Assault on Police
- Stroud was found guilty of controlling and coercive behaviour, threats to kill, two counts of actual bodily harm, two counts of threatening with an offensive weapon, and two counts of assaulting emergency workers.
- The attacks took place between 20 and 23 March 2023, where he tried to strangle his victim and threatened her life.
- He held a knife to the woman’s neck twice, causing serious injuries.
- When police arrested him on 23 March, Stroud violently resisted, fracturing one officer’s finger and spraining another’s wrist.
Recall to Prison and Restraining Order
Stroud was already on licence for previous similar offences when he committed these attacks and was immediately recalled to prison. He received four and a half years for the domestic abuse and an extra three months for assaulting the officers. On release, he faces a two-year extended licence and a 10-year restraining order.
Brave Victim’s Evidence Seals Conviction
Key evidence including victim and family statements, photos of injuries, abusive messages, and recordings played a crucial role. Stroud denied the charges but was convicted by the jury.
“Without her courage and her victim impact statement, we wouldn’t have been able to secure this conviction and sentence,” said Complex Crime Investigator Catherine Baird. “I hope this conviction will encourage more women and girls to come forward.”
“This case shows victims will be heard and perpetrators brought to justice,” she added.
