A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a stabbing incident in Devizes earlier today, June 29. The attack occurred in the Estcourt Street area shortly after 12:30 PM.
Police responded to reports of disorder in Estcourt Street where a man in his 20s was found with stab wounds. The victim was airlifted by air ambulance to Southmead Hospital. Officials have confirmed that his condition is currently stable.
Another man, also in his 20s, was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, possession of a bladed article, and assault on an emergency worker. He remains in custody in Melksham for questioning.
Detective Inspector Gareth Kitchener stated: “Both the suspect and victim were seen running near Kwik-Fit and onto Sidmouth Street immediately after the incident. We urge anyone who witnessed the event and hasn’t contacted police to come forward.”
He added, “We appreciate the community’s concern, especially as this happened in broad daylight on a Saturday afternoon. We’ve made a swift arrest and believe there is no wider risk to the public at this time.”
