James Costello, 38, from Kirkby, is heading to jail for five years after being found guilty of stirring up racial hatred 19 times. The former white supremacist leader ran a vile website packed with racist content.
Hate Website Busted After Public Tips in Merseyside
The probe kicked off in July 2021 when locals spotted racist stickers plastered on lampposts across Merseyside promoting Costello’s hate site. Police swooped, executing search warrants that uncovered loads of racist material linked to the website.
Merseyside Police seized the site and replaced it with a police warning. They also shut down a Twitter account used to promote Costello’s abhorrent views.
Costello’s Ties to Nazi-Inspired Hate Group Exposed
The investigation exposed Costello as a top figure in the “Creativity Movement,” a white supremacist group idolising the Nazi 3rd Reich. He was arrested twice during the inquiry—in August and September 2021—before being formally charged on January 9 for stirring up racial hatred.
Police Crack Down on Online Hate
“Thanks to the public for reporting this disgusting material, we were able to act quickly,” said Detective Chief Inspector Andy Milligan. “The CPS Special Crime and Counter Terrorism Division worked with us to bring Costello to justice. Our cybercrime team now controls the website, cutting off the Creativity Movement’s reach.”
Milligan condemned the racist content as “deplorable” and warned it could have sparked serious community tensions, distress, and even violence. “Online hate will not be tolerated. Offenders are never truly anonymous. We will keep hunting down and prosecuting those who spread hate.”
