Dad Stabs Burglar Dead During Terrifying Home Invasion in Selby
A fearless father-of-two fought back during a brutal break-in, stabbing a masked burglar to death as the gang terrorised his family in Selby, North Yorkshire.
Masked Gang of Six Armed with Weapons Storm Family Home
The chilling attack happened in March 2022. Six men wearing balaclavas and armed with weapons smashed into the family’s house.
One attacker struck the father with a crowbar while his young children looked on in horror. In a desperate struggle, the dad grabbed a knife and stabbed the intruder.
The other five gang members fled in a getaway vehicle, leaving their injured accomplice behind. Despite CPR from the victim and paramedics, the wounded man died at the scene.
Police Launch Manhunt – Five Arrested and Charged
North Yorkshire Police hunted down the five suspects, arresting and charging them with aggravated burglary in October 2023.

- Max Jackson, 33, Stockton on the Forest, York
- Kallan Hunt, 35, no fixed address
- Andrew Richardson, 38, Doncaster
Gang Members Sentenced to Long Jail Terms
This month, all five received hefty sentences:
- Max Jackson – 13 years
- Daniel Welford – 13 years
- Andrew Richardson – 11 years, 4 months
- Alan James Hall – 11 years, 4 months, extended to 19 years as a dangerous offender
- Kallan Hunt – sentenced in line with aggravated burglary conviction
Only Welford admitted being inside the home but downplayed his role. The others largely stayed silent despite strong evidence including phone logs, fingerprints, CCTV, and witness testimony.
Police Praise Victim’s Bravery and Vow Justice
Detective Sergeant Jon Kenworthy said: “This was a premeditated, violent and distressing attack on the victims, who were home with two very young children. Violent acts of this nature in North Yorkshire are rare but will not go unpunished. Our teams will work relentlessly to bring offenders to justice.”
He also thanked the victim and emergency services for attempts to save the intruder’s life. “Any loss of life is a tragedy to the family, and the full circumstances have been impartially investigated.”
