West Midlands Police have charged Daniel Birtwistle, 40, in connection with the death of 24-year-old tattoo artist Georgina Ward. Georgina was found dead at her home in Brierley Hill in November 2020.

Birtwistle, who is from Tamworth, now faces manslaughter charges after receiving advice from the Crown Prosecution Service. In addition to manslaughter, he has been charged with two counts of controlling and coercive behaviour and three assault charges related directly to Georgina’s case.

Furthermore, Birtwistle faces six additional assault charges and another count of controlling and coercive behaviour concerning three other women. He is scheduled to appear at Dudley Magistrates Court on 16 October.

A heartfelt tribute to Georgina Ward describes her as “a remarkable young woman. A daughter, granddaughter, sister and friend who brought laughter and light into the lives of those she touched.” The tribute highlights her talent as a creative tattoo artist with a promising career whose artwork remains a lasting legacy.

Georgina was known for her deep and unconditional love, often putting the needs of others before her own. Her empathy and compassion extended to people, animals, and those less fortunate. She was a protector and a voice for the voiceless, remembered for her kindness and unapologetically genuine nature.

The tribute concludes by stating, “Our lives have been changed irrevocably by her loss and she is missed beyond measure, which is an absolute testament to the person she was. Beautiful, inside and out.”
