Jason Cousins, 46, was caught on CCTV stealing from Tesco on Manston Road not once, but three times between 29 April and 7 May 2024.
A local police officer recognised Cousins in the CCTV footage. He was soon arrested and charged with three counts of theft.
The Manston Road resident pleaded guilty at Thanet Magistrates’ Court on 12 July.
Cousins received a six-month community order and was ordered to pay compensation to Tesco. Kent Police pushed for, and secured, a two-year Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO) to curb his offending.
The CBO bans Cousins from entering Iceland, Aldi, Waitrose in Ramsgate, all Tesco stores in Thanet, and Westwood Cross Shopping Centre. He is also forbidden from entering any store while carrying a bag.
Sergeant Dan Bartlett said, “Kent Police are determined to use every option open to us to protect businesses from repeat shoplifters like Jason Cousins. We will keep building cases against thieves and bringing them to court. Wherever possible, we will also secure court orders, like in this case, to stop reoffending.”
Any breach of the order could see Cousins hauled back before the court for more severe penalties.
