Early Morning Crash Sparks Chaos Near Wennington Interchange
Emergency crews raced to the scene at 3.16am on December 1 after a van collided with a car near the Wennington Interchange on the A13.
Man Hurt, Driver Arrested on Multiple Charges
A 38-year-old man in the van suffered a leg injury and was rushed to hospital. Thankfully, medics confirmed his injuries are not life-threatening or life-changing.
The 41-year-old car driver was arrested at the scene on suspicion of several motoring offences. He escaped the crash unharmed and remains in police custody.
Traffic Delays Stretch for Miles as Police Investigate
The smash caused major traffic chaos, with gridlock stretching from Ferry Lane in Rainham all the way to Dagenham. Roads reopened by 12.30pm, easing the snarls.
A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said:
“At around 03:20hrs on Monday, 1 December, police received reports of a road traffic collision involving a van and a car on the A13, Rainham. Officers attended with the London Ambulance Service, who treated the driver of the van – a 38-year-old man – for an injury to his leg. He was taken to hospital where his injuries were assessed as not life-threatening or life-changing. The driver of the car, a 41-year-old man, was not injured but arrested at the scene for several motoring offences and remains in police custody. Nobody else was injured in the incident and an investigation into the circumstances is underway.”
