A murder investigation has been launched after the bodies of 24-year-old paramedic Daniel Duffield and 22-year-old Lauren Evans were found in a house in Hednesford, Cannock on Tuesday afternoon.
Daniel Duffield was a well-known and respected member of the West Midlands Ambulance Service. He gained recognition through his appearances on Channel 4’s documentary series 999: On The Frontline, which follows emergency service crews in action.
Ellie, Daniel’s crewmate featured on the show, shared an emotional tribute on Instagram expressing her shock and grief. She described Daniel as not only her best friend at work but also one of her closest friends overall. Ellie recalled speaking to Daniel just an hour before his death, saying, “He was the most kind-hearted person who always had time to help others. I’ll forever cherish the dinner he made me the other week – surprised at how nice his fajitas were.”
Daniel’s sister, Chels Louise, also paid tribute on Facebook, calling her brother a bright soul who tirelessly helped others despite facing his own personal struggles.
Richard Barratt, senior operations manager at West Midlands Ambulance Service, described Daniel’s death as “a great tragedy” and praised his dedication to patients and colleagues.
Staffordshire Police have confirmed the identities of both Daniel Duffield from Cannock and Lauren Evans from Bridgend, South Wales, although formal identification is still awaited.
The investigation has been referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) because of recent contact between one of the officers involved and the deceased prior to their deaths.
Detective Superintendent Nicki Addison reassured the public that a specialist team is working diligently to uncover the circumstances surrounding this tragic incident.
