Driver Drags Police Officer Before Wild Police Chase in Southend
A man has been arrested after dragging a police officer along the road by his car during a shocking incident in Southend.
Police Tried to Stop Uninsured Driver
At around 3.30am on Sunday, officers spotted a Toyota Auris reported to be uninsured. When the car stopped on Southchurch Road, an officer approached and tried to take the keys from the ignition.
But the driver sped off, dragging the officer a short distance before fleeing the scene.
High-Speed Chase Ends with Stinger Stop
Police quickly launched a pursuit that took them all the way to Withypool. As officers exited their vehicle, the Toyota reversed and knocked one officer over.
The car then made a break for it again but was finally stopped on Eastern Avenue after officers deployed a stinger device to deflate its tyres.
Driver Arrested on Multiple Charges
The 40-year-old man from Shoeburyness was arrested on suspicion of assault, dangerous driving, failing to stop, and driving under the influence of drink or drugs. He remains in custody for questioning.
Both officers involved suffered minor injuries.
