Man Arrested for Murder After Body Found in Rotherham River
South Yorkshire Police have arrested a 42-year-old man on suspicion of murder following the discovery of a missing man’s body in a river near Treeton Lane, Rotherham. The victim vanished just two days earlier.
Body Found During River Search
Emergency services were called at around 12:15pm on Saturday, 10 May after concerns were raised about the man’s disappearance. Police launched an urgent search of the local river and found the body at 7:15pm that evening.
The family of the missing man have been informed and are receiving support from specially trained officers. Formal identification is still pending.
Murder Investigation Underway
A South Yorkshire Police spokesperson said:
“We are in the early stages of a murder investigation following the discovery of a man’s body in a river. A 42-year-old man is currently in custody. Our thoughts are with the family at this difficult time.”
Detective Chief Inspector Ben Wood, leading the probe, added:
“We understand how shocking this news will be to the local community. We are working hard to find out exactly what happened. Officers will remain in the area over the coming days—please come forward if you have any concerns or information.”

Police have urged anyone with information to contact 101, quoting incident number 418 of 10 May 2025. Alternatively, tips can be given anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
