Over the past month, more than 20 shed break-ins have affected the Bestwood and Top Valley areas. Residents on Broadwood Road, Shoreswood Close, and several other streets have reported smashed padlocks and stolen belongings.
The stolen goods include bicycles, power tools, a motorbike, a moped, and fishing equipment. These thefts have caused significant distress to local homeowners.
Police officers from the Bestwood neighbourhood policing team made a significant breakthrough on Monday, 20 February, when they executed a warrant at Ranskill Gardens, Top Valley. A 39-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of 22 counts of burglary. Earlier, on 17 February, a 16-year-old boy was also arrested under the same suspicion. Both individuals have been released on bail while inquiries continue.
Several stolen items have already been recovered, and police are urging anyone affected to come forward to assist in returning goods to their rightful owners.
Bestwood Sergeant Katie Taylor said, “This has been an ongoing investigation for myself and my team to get to the bottom of exactly who is responsible. Thanks to our officers’ hard work, we secured an arrest. We are taking these reports extremely seriously and working hard to gather every piece of evidence.”
She added, “If you believe you’ve been burgled or have information, please get in touch. Even a small detail can help. We want to give stolen items back to their owners.”
“We understand how upsetting these thefts are financially and emotionally. Don’t hesitate to report anything to us or speak to a patrolling officer.”
If you believe you have been burgled or have any information or CCTV footage, please call Nottinghamshire Police on 101, quoting incident number 90 of 15 February 2023. Alternatively, you can report anonymously to Crimestoppers at 0800 555 111.
