A car flipped onto its roof at a busy roundabout outside Sainsbury’s on Station Road, Staplehurst, this afternoon. The crash happened just before 2 PM, prompting an urgent response from two fire engines and the South East Coast Ambulance Service (SECAmb).
Firefighters quickly rescued the driver, who was shaken but thankfully suffered no serious injuries.
The A229 Station Road, near Staplehurst railway station, was partially blocked after the collision, causing heavy traffic delays. Roads have now reopened, but drivers are urged to take extra care in the area.
Eyewitnesses reported seeing a woman being pulled from the overturned car. One witness said she looked “shaken up but okay.” Local residents expressed frustration about the incident, with comments including: “It wasn’t a shock and was always going to happen with some of the driving in this area.” and “It’s the driving that is dangerous, but the roundabout definitely needs improvements.” Another added, “It was only a matter of time before this happened. Something needs to be done about this roundabout and speeding in the village.”
A Kent Police spokesperson confirmed: “Two cars were involved, and officers and SECAmb attended. No serious injuries were reported. Police have now left the scene.”
Kent Fire and Rescue Service stated: “We were called at 1:52 PM to Station Road, Staplehurst, after reports of a crash involving two cars. Three fire engines attended, and crews assisted one person out of a vehicle. One individual was passed into the care of SECAmb paramedics.”
This accident has reignited local concerns over the safety of the roundabout and speeding drivers. Residents are calling for urgent improvements and stricter control measures to prevent further crashes. Although no serious injuries occurred this time, the incident serves as a reminder that caution on Staplehurst’s roads is essential.
