Firefighters rushed to Staplers Road in Newport this evening after a bonfire sent towering black and white smoke plumes into the sky. A worried local dialled emergency services as thick smoke engulfed the street.
Visibility Drops to Zero Near Long Lane Junction
The smoke was so heavy it blanketed the nearby junction of Long Lane and Mayfield Drive, slashing visibility to almost nothing. Surrounding roads, including Mayfield Drive, were also blanketed by the choking haze.

One appliance from Newport attended the scene swiftly. Firefighters assessed the situation and offered safety advice to residents, bringing the threat under control without needing to douse flames.
