Man Missing After Paddleboard Accident at Dovestone Reservoir

Emergency crews are still hunting for Simon Daniels, who vanished following a boating mishap at Dovestone Reservoir near Oldham, on the fringe of the Peak District. The accident happened around 2:30pm on Sunday, October 20, when Simon and his partner, Holly Ditchfield, both fell into the water while paddleboarding.

Woman Rescued, Man Still Missing

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) confirmed Holly was rescued and treated for hypothermia and shock at the scene. Simon remains missing despite extensive efforts. Underwater search teams and rescue boats are combing the reservoir in a desperate bid to find him.

The couple, both in their 20s, were identified locally amid ongoing rescue operations. Authorities have yet to determine how they ended up in the water.

Emergency Teams Continue Tireless Search

Oldham Police said in a social media statement:

“Underwater teams will continue to search Dovestone Reservoir overnight. The scene remains cordoned off, and the public are urged to stay clear. We’re doing everything we can to locate the missing man.”

Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service deployed three fire engines and the Water Incident Unit, working alongside police and other emergency personnel to support the search effort.

Other Incident Investigated Nearby

Earlier the same day, emergency services recovered a man’s body from the River Irwell in Salford, around 15 miles away. Police confirmed this was not gang-related but are investigating the circumstances.

Officials urge the public to avoid the Dovestone search area and send their support to those affected. More updates will follow as the search and investigation progress.
