Serious Crash Closes Staplers Road: Motorbike and Van Collide
Emergency Services Rush to Scene
A high-speed crash involving a motorbike and a Ford Transit van has slammed Staplers Road shut in both directions. The collision, which happened just after 10.20am, forced a full closure at the Bluebells roundabout.
Fire crews from Newport, police, Isle of Wight ambulance crews, and the Isle of Wight air ambulance were all scrambled to the scene. The van was reportedly carrying a disabled woman at the time of the collision.
Road Closures and Transport Disruptions
The closure is causing chaos with traffic, including a Number 9 bus to Ryde stuck within the cordoned-off area. Southern Vectis has warned of delays, rerouting buses via Fairlee Road until the road reopens.
Motorbike Rider Seriously Injured
The rider of the red, high-powered bike suffered serious injuries. Paramedics and the air ambulance doctor provided emergency treatment at the roadside. The rider was only wearing a helmet and shorts at the time of the crash.
UPDATE: Rider Airlifted to Hospital
The injured motorcyclist has now been airlifted to Southampton General Hospital. Authorities expect the road to remain closed for a thorough collision investigation.
