New Covid rules will come into effect in England from Tuesday 30 November. Face masks will be mandatory in shops and on public transport across England, unless you are exempt.
Anyone who has been near someone suspected of having the Omicron variant must self-isolate for 10 days regardless of their vaccination status.
From 4am on Tuesday, all arrivals to the UK must take a PCR test within 48 hours of arrival and self-isolate until they receive a negative result. Authorities are emphasizing that there will be no exceptions this time.
Schools will also enforce mask-wearing rules. Students from year 7 up to university level must wear face coverings in communal areas. Staff and visitors are required to do the same. However, masks will not be required inside classrooms.
These new rules are temporary and will be reviewed after three weeks.
Krishna, the local health chief in Southend-on-Sea, warned about the rising Covid rates in the area. “Covid-19 rates in Southend-on-Sea have soared by a third in just a week,” Krishna said. “We must all stay vigilant – wearing masks, social distancing, hand washing, and ventilating rooms are vital to stop the spread of new variants.”
Krishna added, “Our first vaccine pop-up was a hit, and we’re targeting areas with low uptake to make sure everyone gets protected. If you feel unwell, self-isolate and get a PCR test immediately.”
“Take your vaccine and booster, wear your mask in crowded spots, and keep washing those hands. The people of Southend have been brilliant so far, and together we can prevent further restrictions.”
