Itchen Bridge Shut After Man Threatens to Jump

The Itchen Bridge has been shut down this afternoon after a man threatened to jump, sparking a major emergency response.

Bridge Sealed Off – Traffic at a Standstill

Police closed the bridge in both directions shortly after 12:40pm following reports of a person threatening to leap from the high structure.

The man was spotted precariously positioned over the parapet, described by officers as a “high risk”. A team of specialist police are on site trying to talk him down.

Police Statement

“Someone threatened to jump from the bridge and is being described as a high risk. We have sent a number of specialist officers to the scene,” a police spokeswoman said.

The bridge remains closed while officers continue negotiations in this tense stand-off.
