Starving Lions and Stranded Animals in Sudan Warzone

The Sudan Animal Rescue Centre is sounding the alarm as 25 lions and dozens of other creatures, including gazelles, camels, monkeys, hyenas, and birds, face a dire crisis. The sanctuary is crippled by power cuts and severe food shortages, putting animal lives at immediate risk.

War Tears Through Wildlife Sanctuary

The deadly power struggle between army chief Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and rival Mohamed Hamdan Daglo has left over 400 dead and thousands injured. This horrific conflict is plunging one of the world’s poorest countries into chaos, with the wildlife caught in the crossfire.

Amidst ongoing violence, the sanctuary that houses these animals is suffering badly. The lack of electricity means safety fences aren’t powered, leaving animals vulnerable. Worse still, food supplies are dwindling fast — lions alone need between five to ten kilograms of meat every day.

Dangerous Conditions Threaten Animal Safety

  • Power outages endanger electric fences protecting animals.
  • Food shortages put lions and other wildlife at risk of starvation.
  • Stolen vehicles and daily nearby military clashes add to insecurity.
  • Lack of permanent staff makes rescue efforts nearly impossible.

Urgent Plea to Save Sudan’s Wildlife

The Sudan Animal Rescue Centre has made a desperate call for immediate action. Without urgent help to restore power and secure food supplies, the animals could face a tragic fate.

“The situation at the sanctuary has become critical due to lack of electricity and food. We urge officials and anyone with the means to intervene now and save these innocent creatures,” the Centre warned.

The clock is ticking for Sudan’s wildlife caught in the crosshairs of civil war. Without swift aid, starvation and danger loom large for these defenceless animals.
